The Agency for Persons with Disabilities states that each Floridian should have a “meaningful day activity”. Threshold’s adult day training programs are designed to evaluate the client’s capabilities and assist them in defining what is available for them. Skill development is essential for learning and building skills takes time for people with life-long disabilities.
In 2003 Threshold started our Ceramics and Pottery Shop (TCAPS) with the idea of pulling disabled people out of the industrial district where they waited for small jobs to find them. People who had never made anything in their lives were now being introduced to new materials and an opportunity to be creative.
In the near future our goal is to expand these services and add horticulture and gardening, animal training, woodworking and other crafts. While creating the TCAPS pulled our clients out of the industrial warehouse district, it did not meet the needs of people who may have little or no interest in ceramics. Our goal is to provide an enclave with a variety of programs so our clients have a choice in their meaningful day activity.
