Threshold Medical and Dental Centers
Threshold's medical and dental clinics are independent however the physicians and dentist practice cooperatively to ensure that you have access to the best possible care.
Medical Services
We have a family care focus is to ensure that patients with developmental and other disabilities and their families have access to primary care. Our medical staff consists of a board certified internal medicine physician, pediatricians and a family nurse practitioner.
Our clinic is new and state-of-the-art. Many disabled patients have had their care relegated to facilities that were often well past their prime. All patients deserve access to a facility that respects them for who they are. We want to be your "Medical Home"... for you and your whole family.
We offer early diagnosis programs for parents who may have developmental concerns about their child. Should therapy be needed we offer outcome based behavioral services and carefully monitor progress. We do not support the notion of trying a variety of anecdotal treatments hoping for a cure. We are generally hopeful that your child is normal and perhaps simply delayed. On the other hand we do not necessarily take a "wait and see" approach. Appropriately provided, early intervention with behavioral therapy will not injure or otherwise harm your child. Delaying care for a year or more can have a profound impact on your child.
Dental Services
Dental care for developmentally disabled patients is predominantly not available in Central Florida. Threshold's new dental clinic is as modern and well equipped as any other clinic in the country today. Dr. Robin Flicker is a general dentist and dedicated toward ensuring that families with children and adults with development disabilities have a dental home.
Threshold does not offer IV sedation at this time. There are clearly risks with the administration of IV sedation and while our medical team is immediately available, we are not currently set up to provide this service. We do have oral sedation and nitrous oxide available for patients who are a bit anxious about going to the dentist. For patients who are developmentally disabled our behavioral and dental staffs work together to develop dental tolerance for care.
We offer training programs to assist care workers and parents in dental hygiene and ways to improve visit outcomes behaviorally. Our goal is to improve dental outcomes and reduce the incidence of advanced dental disease. We believe that removing teeth is not the best course of action for any of our patients.
