Threshold Medical

Threshold Center for Autism

Threshold's special needs clinic ensures that all patients on the autism and related disabilities spectrum have access to high quality primary care.

While medical care is often easier to obtain than dental care, Threshold has created our special needs clinic to ensure that all patients on the autism and related disabilities spectrum have access to high quality primary care. Continuity of care demands that families have a "Medical Home" and that our providers have the opportunity for understanding the dynamics of homes with special needs children and adults. Each special needs family must have access to their medical home and a provider that is not only a part of a multi-disciplinary team but understands and looks forward to working with this population of patients.

Teaming with our dental clinic and behavior analysis professionals, we are able to look at the entire patient and family to ensure that we have not missed subtle clues that could lead to an earlier diagnosis and treatment plan. Our behavior analysts work with families and our providers to develop care tolerance programs. Care tolerance, whether medical, dental or behavioral ensures the best opportunity for a complete examination.

Many patients are concerned about seeing their physician or dentist and are anxious about the visit. With the developmentally disabled population these visits may not be welcomed and severe behaviors may prevent a complete examination. Our behaviorists work with patients, families and providers to develop programs that can improve the opportunity for a successful outcome.
